Also known as the Sheep Islands, the 18 Faroes are halfway between Scotland and Iceland. This cake recipe includes oats, which are common in Scottish breads, and cardamom, caraway, currants, and hazelnuts, which are common in Scandinavian cuisine. The vanilla sauce is also very Scandinavian. Traditionally these cakes are served with a fruity dessert soup.
